Went to the cinema to see Scream 4 (or Scre4m if you believe those oh so clever marketing chaps) and Insidious today. Thought the former was awful bar one of the film’s final lines about ‘remakes not fucking with the originals’, which is a real shame as I’m a big fan of the originals, yes even number 3. The latter, from the folk that gave us Saw and Paranormal Activity was essentially a hybrid of Paranormal Activity and Poltergeist 1 and 2, and I really quite enjoyed it. It had some inspired jumps and an interesting story that wasn’t just joining the dots. Sarah gripped my hand uber hard on numerous occasions and was even shaking at one point; I’m just pleased that we emerged back into sunlight at the end of the film.
The reason for this oh so mini-entry is less about the films that we saw but more our very own Empire Cinema spin on that classic Two Ronnies ‘Four Candles’ sketch. We went and asked for two tickets for Scream 4 and the woman thought we said Screen 4, we said no and clearly repeated again, two tickets for Scream 4, she then thought we were asking for tickets for Thor (or should that Thor tickets for For), again we replied no, we then thought we’d help matters by saying Scream 4 at 2.20pm, to which we were told there was no screening in Screen 4 at 2.20pm (sheesh).
We did finally get our tickets, not that we needed seat numbers though as we were the only two folk in there, smashing the previous record of us and a sleeping man for Poseidon back in 2006.
